We are working on learning to balance chemical equations.  I have provided on Google Classroom two resources to help prepare you to be able to do the work.  One is a tutorial from Khan Academy and the other are the 10 steps to balancing equations.  

Make sure you review the two tutorials over several times to prepare for the upcoming test.

Complete the conclusion questions on the back of your data table from the Density lab.

 

If you did not participate in the Density lab, you need to complete p. 162-165 from the text book.

Today we had our density lab.  Will have to continue it tomorrow so please report to room 26.  For those students that had their contracts and participated in the lab, you have no homework.

 

For those students who did not have your contracts signed, make sure you get them signed tonight.  You need to finish the assignment you received in class today.

Types of Forces 

You are creating a table that lists the types of forces, their properties and the direction of the force.  Go to Google classroom.  The template is on the "Nature of Force" window.  

This assignment is to be created in the composition book, page 9. Use your notes and chapter 2, pages 96-104 to assist you in creating this table.

BE NEAT AND ACCURATE!!!

Classwork:

Newton's Three Laws of Motion

Use a legal size sheet of paper to make the drawings. (see template)

1.  Label each cartoon cell with the name of each Newton's Laws.  

2.  Draw a cartoon for each of the laws that describes each law.  You can do a little research o Google images.

3.  on the space left outside the cartoon cell write the law then describe how each sketch is an example of each law.

4. Color each of the cartoons.

 

Read chapter 2, starting pages 88-115.  Focus on Types of forces, Newton's three laws of motion and the formulas used to calculate force.

Remember, this material is review and we are now preparing for the first test in semester 2.

Skimmer Lab Report.

Each day in class we are working on writing your lab report.  Attendance is essential to complete this assignment.  Most of the lab report is done in class (90%) which leaves only 10% to work on in class.  The entire report is scheduled to be completed by December 13, making it the last assignment that will be uploaded to the semester one grade.  

Make sure to complete ass sections of the lab report that were not finished in class to ensure that the report is finished by the due date.

Use the formulas that you learned from the Notes (Describing Motion, Speed and Velocity) to work out the problems on the Mathwise.  They are to be answered on the Composition Book, pages 8a, 8b.

To show your work you must include the following:

a. Identify the variables,

b. write the formula,

c. plug in the numbers into the formula,

d. calculate the answer,

e. draw a box around the answer.

1.  Read through the notes with the Power Point.

2.  Highlight the key concepts as you go through the notes.

3. Answer all questions on the notes.

Period 1 and 2 only:

Hello Everyone, 

I have now updated all grades not counting those items that have not been graded on the list and any work turned in this week in the late box.  I highly recommend that if you have any missing work that you complete it and turn it in ASAP.  

As you know, all Skimmers should be completely finished by now.  We started building them in class on October 11, 12, 16 and 17 and you were allowed to come in during lunch and after school if you needed more time.  I also allowed some of you to take them home to complete.  I have attached the blue print for the Skimmer on this site if you need it this weekend.

 

Testing will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 7.    Any skimmer not ready to test on Tuesday will have a grade drop to 70/100 points.  Have your Skimmer ready Monday to check in.

I hope all of you 8th grade students that attended today's "A Day at the Ranch" trip had a great time and had a chance to see what awaits you next year.  

 

Yesterday you started the Motion  Illustrated Vocabulary in class.  

Remember that is is due tomorrow. 

You will use the computers to work on the Zombie College Lab Safety assignment in class for Wednesday and Thursday.

2.  Use the video to answer the worksheet "Zombie College: 5 Rules of Lab Safety."

3.  When you finish watching the video, click on ZC Video Games and take the quiz.

4.  Once finished and see your certificate, you will print the certificate and turn it in with your worksheet.  If you do not get to finish in class and cannot print at home, then screenshot it or take a picture with your phone and email it to [email protected].

You are using the Metric scale to help you convert these measurements.  You can use the following rules to help you:

1. Find the starting decimal point on the scale.  

    [Remember: 

    If the symbol is alone (single) that is a base unit.

    ex. g=gram, m=meter

    If the symbol is two or more, you start at the symbol that represents the prefix. 

    ex. cm = prefix "centi-"]

 

2. Find the ending decimal point on the scale. 

    [Same reminder as above]

 

3. Place the numbers on the space where they belong relative to the the decimal point.

    [ex. in the number 2.14dm, the decimal point is placed under the "deci-" place and the 2 willbe      placed in front of the deci- and the 14 behind the deci- place.

 

4. Move the decimal to the new location by jumping to the left or right. 

 

5.  Fill in the blank spaces with zeros.
