Welcome RMS families to our virtual back to school night my name is Dr. Ventura-Rincon in and I'm the principal here  at Rivera Middle School. How will Virtual Back School  work-go to our RMS website click on the tab that says virtual back to school night that will send you to a page where it shows all of our teachers.  All of our  teachers  have prepared a video for you that you can watch at your convenience. If you have any questions regarding the class teachers will be available through zoom from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The zoom link is underneath the teacher's name. If you have specific questions regarding your child please email the teacher directly at this information is confidential.
 As a reminder please conduct a daily self check at home  before sending your child to school. We ask that all families please keep your child home from school if they are sick or if they have been exposed to someone with covid-19 or waiting  for  a Covid-19 test  Please contact the school at 562-801-7580 in case of any covid infection exposure to covid-19 or if they're sick . Our El Rancho Unified School District has provided covid-19 precautions every person who enters the campus temperature is taken,  in every classroom and every entrance we have hand sanitizer every classroom , every classroom has plexiglass on every other desk,  we have water bottle filling station and every student received a free water bottle from our district. We have portable hand washing stations are available for student to wash their hand throughout the day. Parent Involvement at  Rivera Middle School . We have School Site Council we have English Language Advisory Committee nomination forms are available on the back to school night website and voting will be next week .These committees will meet once a month through zoom this school year. In addition you have access to your parent portal where you can check your child attendance, grades,  missing assignment and this is where you can keep your contact information updated. We are a Title 1 District.  This is a program that provides additional academic support and learning opportunities for students at schools with high percentages of socio-economically disadvantaged children. The program is intended to help ensure that all students meet state academics  standards. The goals of Title 1  are to increase academic achievement, provided direct instructional support to students, provide professional development for teachers, and  parent education and involvement. School Site Council is responsible for the following tasks: to develop a program that is responsive to the needs of students in the school to meet on a regular basis,  to assess the effectiveness of the categorically find a supplemental programs by planning developing and approve and review and update the categorical budget at Rivera Middle School.  The School Site Council meets on a monthly basis through soon at 7:30 a.m. the first Monday of the month this year we are  looking for 3 parent/guardians to be a part of School site Council.  Advising the principal and staff in the development of a site plan for English learners and submitting the plan to the School Site Council for consideration of inclusion in the School Plan for Student Achievement.
Assisting in the development of the schoolwide needs assessment.
Each ELAC shall have the opportunity to elect at least one member to the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). We are looking for parents of our English Learners to be part of ELAC.  PBIS implementation at Rivera Middle School. We are very proud that we were awarded the Gold PBIS implementation award by California PBIS coalition. This year we are using a new program that will be rolled out  very soon which is PBIS rewards which is a app and everything is digital.  In the past we have used Eagle Loot paper tickets this year everything will be digital online for students . Mental Health Resources. During this time of the pandemic parents having concerns regarding their students and their mental heath, if you feel that your child needs additional services please go to our Rivera Middle School website click on the parent tab then click on mental health care referral.  One of our mental health representative will contact you. Communication. Our communication is through  social media we have Facebook Instagram and Twitter. We also communicate through email so make sure your Parent Portal information is up-to-date. In addition new to the school year is parents square. There's an app that you can add to your phone. This is the main campus communication tool used by teachers, administrators and families to communicate so make sure that your information is updated on a parent portal. Also on parents square is  where are all the dates and calendars for the school year.cCalendar dates are also available on our website. If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the web page. Ways to help your child academically: frequently check your parent portal ,make sure your child is attending school on time, encourage reading  out  of school and ask follow-up questions on what they're reading, acknowledge when your students are doing well and encourage them stay positive even through these difficult times and you do not need to wait until Parent Conference to contact  teachers. Parent conferences will be in in October. We've also provided student with supplies this school year. We are provided all our RMS students of the following: agendas that were given during their fifth period class,  colored pencils and a glue stick through there science classes,  pencil boxes through their Spanish class,  graphing  paper or graphing notebook through their math class  and  a composition book through the language arts class. If your child was absent on one of those days have them see those teachers. In the next couple of weeks you'll be getting information regarding RMS After School Support classes will occur from 3 to 3:50 p.m. and teacher open office hours from 3 to 3:30 pm. In addition will be providing information on clubs  which may be available during lunch or after school.
