Org you'll be entered into a raffle held every episode by the way the special shout-out to Al Campos for regularly answering these questions this week we have a very special interview at School District Board member and former Rivera Middle School Miss Arlene Perez take it away with the umbrella Jacinto and today we have a special where you from El Rancho Unified Board of Education Miss Arlene Perez so let's just get started with our first question as a student I don't really know what a board member is I have only ever seen board members in meetings online can you explain to us board member is and what they do think you for having me a little about that so I know when I was a student I was always they would walk into the classroom and I just would see them that they're all dressed up then I never saw them I say maybe I'm too pretty much what a board member does we you all right so we represent the teachers and staff the parents the community and we make sure that whatever doctors parts are you superintended and cabinet whatever they decide to execute you want to make sure you know are they in line with the clothes that we have District if we're going to Fort sample I come from the technology sector right so if I really want to emphasize technology what are we doing in technology to school so I'm the one that's asking a lot of questions to make sure that you know that we're getting the best of vacation for You All That Remains Metra train teachers office afforded to literally it's the voice for the community and that bridge and that liaison between the school superintendent the cabinet and the committee is very informative Darlene Perez my name is Gabriel housing do and our next question is why did you become a board member so I became apartment because of students like you actually I you know so I went to this. I went to Rivera Middle School going to Rancho High School and then I taught middle school math and so I saw a lot of the things in education that I have always have a passion and a respect for educators answer for me after I left the classroom and I decided you know I really want baby come from Dakota Valley Community that it's always about how can I help others that's how I feel you were raised answer for me it was how can I help my community in a district that gave so much to me and how do I make sure that I'm that boys for students 40 stuff to make sure that our priorities are set up and also just a different voice I feel like you know a lot of board members thought I was young and so for me it was like what bring something you know James with bring a little bit of New Idea Center I love I love working on the board I think everyone in my board bring something unique and supremia was like how can I view know when those worlds together when you were a child at our age did you have a drink where you wanted did you know you wanted to I knew I loved math I definitely did not know some people tell me to be a teacher some people told me to be an accountant because I was good at math that was the only thing on you so I don't honestly I knew what I wanted to do and you do when you get to high school and college you may not know what you want to do I went in being an accounting major in college and then I realize you know what this isn't for me so I switched to actually be a political science major he was involved I loved like educational politics and how you can really make change the health and education and then you know that I want to be a teacher for math cuz I was like you know I really love math I love students I love helping and now and I transition out of the question so now I'm actually a software developer and I work in technology websites for cops and this how we know 21st century type of environment I'm so I think it's going to change I I don't think you know students what do you like what are you curious about what you love and you'll figure it out I really like how you went through the whole journey of discovering your career our next question is do you have any pets if so what and what are their names I have like one like holding right here cuz he was like actually behaving or once this is Coco he is my baby he is full of love I have two dogs outside their their big dogs and there they are buddy and pal nacho Atkins what's a kid's thank you our next question is if you had a boat what would you name it honestly I think like the Coco Loco. And I think my family is just what I think is buying something about it I was like I do think of my family and bring you into stuff like that and my family is loud and Mexican and crazy in a good way anyway yeah I love pink if you see my desk it's all pink that's definitely pink and white and I think a little bit of the Mexican culture to show you know my identity to show my right in my background I think that the next year the flowers very bright colors I love that piece next question is something we always ask our guest is what would you do with 10 billion dollars yes 10 billion and you can't stay in bed because that's just be greedy I thought about that I think for me number one would be to pay off like mortgages the house mortgages my family members House of my own and then after that I think I would definitely credit profit and education for me when my biggest passions is how do we get students college and career-ready I feel like sometimes once you get to high school you know getting those resources how do we prepare students and even during college I just you know supporting at the high school so I think a nonprofit that focuses on students and the focus is on the College and Career readiness I would definitely because you know my whole family lives here and I love that piece that we can all like I literally walk across the street with my aunt so everyone's here I would definitely be white from the outside black my my decorative style is very modern very simple like gold white pretty much my desk pink type of colors vary like simple cute is what is one food you cannot live without ice cream and I was like I definitely cannot live this next question is where are you in any extracurricular activities when you're in high school like drama tennis perhaps daddy where you played the clarinet yeah so I physically can't run like at all and so I suspect you as NK what can I do that physically I'm probably not going to get to you because there's only like to eat I'm going to do music Contraband you actually walking a lot you're exercising a lot because of all the band competitions and so yes I joined band and then I was a part of like like it's pretty much like in college the band took a big portion I haven't but I want to pick up piano I've always loved seeing like I know John Legend. I want to play like him just like passion and just tell nice it sounds that's on my to-do list yeah I think so do that one band because I started being abandoned.
