INTEGRATED MATH I - 8 (Period 3)
Course Description
Class overview
The Integrated I course is the first course in a five-year sequence of college preparatory mathematics courses that starts with Integrated I and continues through Calculus. Its purpose is to help students deepen their understanding from previous courses by focusing on developing fluency with solving linear equations, inequalities, and systems, and then extending them to solving simple exponential equations, exploring linear and exponential functions graphically, numerically, symbolically, and as sequences. Students will also be using regression techniques to analyze the fit of models to distributions of data.
Class structure
Following the Common Core Standards, this class will focus around collaborative learning by investigating, discussing and discovering the different math concepts, while working in teams. Students will use problem-solving strategies, questioning, investigating, analyzing critically, gathering and constructing evidence, and communicating different arguments justifying their thinking.
Assessments will take different forms, both formally and informally, and will include team, individual tests. The only way students will master the concepts is by being actively involved in their learning. I will be available for guiding, supporting and summarizing at all times during class, during lunch and after school.
Homework will assigned on a daily basis to help students practice and master the skills learned in class. It is expected that students complete every assignment before they come to class the next day. If the student does not complete their assignment, they will have to come in during lunch or after school to complete their work and a call or note might be sent home.
