Response to Reading Essay on Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is due printed in class on Monday May 4.  Don't forget it must follow MLA format and be done on your Google Doc Account.  I will be available after school, in order to provide you with computers or any assistance needed.    

We did it.  We are down to the last chapter.  Read Chapter 12 to figure out the significance of the title.

Last day to order books is Thurs. April 23.

Read chapter 11 of Roll of Thunder.

We are almost done with the novel.   Read chapter 10 of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.

Read the 2nd half of chapter 7, pages 154-170.  Quiz during regular periods tomorrow.

 

Don't forget your ear phones for testing if you did not bring them today.

 Tomorrow begins the SBAC testing for my students.  Please make sure you bring with your your ear buds or headphones to assist you with the testing.

 

Testing tips:

 

1) Get a good nights sleep

2) Have a good breakfast

3) Bring your headphones

4) Have your novel to read in case you finish the test early.

Read the last half of chapter  6, pages 130-133.

Read part 1 of Chap. 6, pages 117 to the top of 130.

Students who missed the test on Chap. 1 of Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry because they were absent or were participating at the Mount Sac Relays can make up the test on Monday 3/30 after school.

2 things for this weekend:

 

1)  If you did not attend Parent Conference, make sure you give your parents your Progress Report and return it no later than Monday 3/30 for credit.  If your parents attended conferences, they already have it and you are getting credit for it.

 

2) Read the 2nd half of chapter 4, pages 88-101.  Quiz on the chapter on Monday, 3/30

If you have missed any test from chap. 1- 4, part 1,   you need to stay after school on Monday 3/30 at 3 pm in order to make them up.  

Read part 1 of chapter 4.  You need to read from pages 69 to t the top paragraph on page 88. Quiz tomorrow.

Read the 2nd part of chapter 3, pages 56-68.  Quiz on reading tomorrow.

Read pages 42-56 of Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry.  Quiz on material read tomorrow.

 

Any student that scored a "D" or below on the Civil War Vocabulary Test can come on Thursday 3/12 at 3:pm to retake the test.

Get progress reports signed and return tomorrow 3/6.

Make sure you are studying your vocabulary words.  Just a reminder that your test is this Thurs. 2/26.  It is the first test for 2nd semester and worth a large percentage of your grade.

Make sure to study for the test on vocabulary tomorrow.

Write the sentences for the last 10 words on your Civil War Vocabulary list.  

Write the first 10 words of your Civil War Vocabulary in sentences( Civil War - Drummer Boy).  You may use multiple words in one sentence. Make sure to use context clues in the sentence, to show you understand the word meaning.  Don't forget to underline, or highlight the word used in the sentence.    You can not write the definition as the sentence.  

Make sure you return the permission slip for " A Day at the Ranch " by tomorrow 1/29 if you have not turned it in already.

Just a reminder that your Research Report is due on 1/26 when you come to class.  I will stay after school next week, Jan 20, 21 and 22, like I did this week from 3-4 to provide you with a room to work in, laptops to use and a printer  if needed.  Please take advantage of the extra support being provided.  The paper is your first grade for Semester 2.  

 

For extra credit you are to read a book of your choice, at your reading level, that you selected from the library last week. There are two things you must do to get the credit.

 

1)   When done reading the book you need to visit our school library and take the AR test for that book.  After this is completed, let me know via email or in writing that it is done so I can check with  Ms. Rubio.

 

2) Complete the book report that will be described when we return on Dec. 1.

 

Remember this is extra credit.  You must turn it in by Dec. 19 or before.  I will not be asking for them, since this is not required for all students.  You need to turn it in on your own on the date due.

 

 

 

Just a reminder if you wish to order books, the money is due by this Friday, 12/19.

 

 

Progress Reports were sent home.  Make sure you get a parent/guardian's signature and return it to class tomorrow.

Just want to remind you there will be no homework this week because we are working on the district benchmark exam.   

 

You can,  however,  read your novel if you are planning on doing the extra credit book report assignment that is due 12/19.

Over Thanksgiving break finish writing your Response to Reading that we started in class.   Don't forget to follow MLA format:  12pt font, Times New Roman, Pagination at top right side, double spaced, one inch margins.   

 

In case you lose the paper with the directions or the sample you were given, I have attached them.

 

This is due on Monday, Dec.1 when you return.  You will submit your final printed copy with your rough draft stapled to the back.  

 

If you have any questions, you can send me an email up until 3 pm next Tuesday. 11/25.

 

Have a great Thanksgiving Break! 

Complete the slide or slides you are responsible for on the class presentation of the Cambodian Genocide that we have been working on for about a week now.  We will be presenting in class tomorrow.

Finish reading your section to the article on the Cambodian Genocide.

Remember to do the following:

1) read it

2) circle any words you don't know 

3) look up the definitions and write them down

4) highlight the facts in each paragraph

 

We will be using this in class tomorrow when you work in your groups.

We are at the last  two chapters of the novel, finish reading  chapters 17 & 18 tonight.

Few things today:

 

1)  Read chapters 15/16.  Don't forget you need to be finding the answers to the reading prompt question and highlighting them if you are using your own book.

 

2) Show your parents your progress report and get their signature so you can return it tomorrow.

 

Read chapter 13/14 of the novel.  Don't forget you need to be finding the answers to the question for our reading prompt.

We are almost done with the novel.  Read chapter 12 for homework.   Quiz on reading tomorrow.

Complete the study skills packet to help you with the test on the story on Monday, 11/3.

Finish graphing the story.

Read chapters 8 and 9 of the Clay Marble.  Don't forget to highlight the evidence that answers the following question for your Writing Prompt.  Add post it's to the pages to help you find them later. Quiz on these chapters tomorrow.

Finish answering the essential questions to the article on Mingfong Ho.  Make sure you cite your evidence.

Study for the test on vocabulary words for The Clay Marble

Write sentences for your vocabulary words.  Make sure to use all the words. You may use more than one word in a sentence.  Don't forget to underline or highlight the vocabulary word.

Review your notes on Figurative Language for your test on Monday. 9/29.

For the past 5 days we have been working on the group projects in class.  Tomorrow we will start our presentation.  Make sure you bring all your props, posters, and any other materials you might need.

Work on make sure you get the materials you need for your group project.

Finish any class work not finished in class.

Finish the assignment on the Article we read for 9/11.  Remember you are to circle unknown words,  highlight the main ideas/facts in the article, and write a one paragraph summary.  This is due in class tomorrow.

Finish class assignment if you did not finish it during class today.

Finish any classwork not finished during class time.

Final Draft of Autobiography is due tomorrow.  It should be done on Google Docs, like we have been writing it in class.  Print a final copy and turn it in along with your rough draft.

Finish typing your Autobiography using Google Drive. 

Finish writing paragraphs 3, 4 and 5 of your autobiograpy, if you did not finish in class.

1)  Finish writing the first 2 paragraphs of the autobiography.

2) Get signatures from your parents on the items in the student handbook.

1) Finish your metaphor collage, as instructed in class.  Don't forget to add color.  All prewriting is due as well.

 

2) Don't forget to buy your materials for class.  I will check them on Monday for credit. ( binder, loose leaf paper, dividers, pencils, pens, highlighters, ear buds)

Welcome to a new school year!!  Make sure you complete the assignment started in class(list of 30-40 Adjectives), and get syllabus signed by your parents.

1) Draw the symbols for the metaphors you wrote today in class.   You can trace them if you want.   Don't forget to rank them in order of importance to you.

 

2) Get parent signature on Acceptance of Responsibilities.
