8th Grade Language Arts (Period 6) Assignments

Last two chapters of the Red Scarf Book. You will be reading them over the weekend and furlough day. Chapter 16( The Incriminating Letter) and Chapter 17( Sweeping) are the last ones. They will be the last quiz for the novel. Quiz will be on Wednesday, May 30.

We are almost done with Red Scarf Girl. Read Chapter 14( Class Education Exhibition) and ch. 15 ( The Rice Harvest). Quiz on friday on those 2 chapters.

Two things for tomorrow:

1) Make up tests - if you need to make up any test for the last two weeks, you need to stay after school on 5/25. I am starting promptly at 3 pm. As a courtesy to your classmates, don't be late.

2) Anne Frank - You have a test on Act 1 tomorrow, since we finished with it in class. Review your vocabulary.

It's time to resume our novel reading again, so we can finish it up. Read chapter 13 of Red Scarf Girl. Quiz tomorrow

CST testing starts tomorrow for all 8th grade students. In efforts to help the students do well on the test we will not be reading Red Scarf Girl until we are done with testing. This will allow students to review the notes and handouts provided to help them on the Language Arts - CST.

You will be taking a test on all the Poetry that we have been doing for two weeks now. Know the difference between Lyric and Narrative. You also need to know the different types of poetry and their characteristic. Refer to your notes. Start studying early.

Read chapter 10 of Red Scarf Girl.

Read Chapters 8 & 9 of Red Scarf Girl. You have two days to read the chapters. Quiz will be on Thursday 5/3 because of the Modified day.

Finish the revisions to the paragraph we started in class. We will correct it in class tomorrow.

Second trimester grade reports were sent home today. Make sure to get a parent signature and bring them back for a grade.

Make sure you study for your final exam on Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. You must read the authors notes, review your exposition from chapter one, and study your vocabulary words. All of this will help you on your Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, final on Thursday, 3/8/2012.

Finish reviewing for the final exam of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by completing the 12 short summaries or bullet points you have been working on since monday.

Test is tomorrow. Don't forget to review your vocabulary words for the story as well.

Just a reminder, make-up test tomorrow for anyone who needs to take any test from chapter 8-12 of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, at 3 pm.

Continue writing the summaries or bullet points that you started in class. You need to complete them for the first 4 chapters of the book.

Assignment - write a 3 - 4 sentence summary on each chapter or make a list of 5-6 bullet points for each chapter of the book.

Students who were absent on the day the Anne Frank Test was given will have another opportunity to make up the test at 3 pm on Thurs. January 26, 2012.

Re-read chapter 1 of Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, students will take a comprehension reading test on the chapter.

Test on wednesday, January 25, on all the characters in chapter one of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. Students should study their character log.

1) Finish your paragraph on the setting for chapter one of Roll of Thunder Hear, My Cry.

2) Study your Character Log for your test tomorrow.

World War II reports were due today. Students are to revise reports at home tonight. Make any corrections needed to turn in completed assignments tomorrow. Also review all your information on the following: Anne Frank, Adolf Hitler, Concentration Camps and Holocaust. You will have a test on these four items in class tomorrow.

All 8th Grade students are required to complete a World War II report over Winter Break. The report consists of research on 7 different topics along with Introduction, Table of Contents and Works Cited page. Students must research topic and put it in their own words; do not plagerize. Correct grammar, spelling and writing strategies must be used.

Report is due on January 9, 2011, the day we return from winter break.

A handout with all the information and requirements, as well as the samples, was given to all students in class on 12/15. The same handout is attached for your reference.

Students will be tested on material researched the first week back after winter break.

Read over the requirements for the World War II report distributed today in class. Bring any questions you need clarified to class tomorrow, so they can be answered. Don't forget tomorrow is the last day before vacation and last day for any questions to be answered. We will not see each other until January 9, and your report is due that day.

Review your notes on Brown vs. Board of Education, along with the vocabulary, for the test tomorrow.

We have finished reading Brown vs. Board of Education, go over you notes to prepare for the test on the story tomorrow in class.

There has been no major homework this week. We have been working as a class on the comprehension of 8th grade literature. Any work not completed in class was to be finished at home.

Review your paragraphs for Brown vs. Board. Test on reading tomorrow.

Go over your paragraphs for Brown vs. Board of Education. Make sure they are at least 3 sentences in each one and that they make sense. Also check your spelling and punctuation. If it is messy, re-write it.
